About Checkbench
What this is
Checkbench is a set of free device tests that run in your browser: keyboard, mouse, microphone, webcam, speakers, dead pixels, refresh rate and gamepad. There is nothing to install and no account.
Who makes it
Checkbench is made by Lumen Lab, a small studio in Korea that makes apps and web tools. You can reach us at woxocoso@gmail.com.
How results are judged
Each verdict comes from a rule you can read next to it. None of these rules is an official standard, and the ones marked adjustable can be changed on the test page.
- Double-typing on a keyboard: a second press within 30 ms of releasing the same key (adjustable).
- Double-click fault on a mouse: a second press within 50 ms of releasing the same button (adjustable).
- Mouse updates per second: counted from pointer updates the browser received while the mouse moved fast. An estimate.
- Refresh rate: the median gap between 120 frames. Shown as “about” a common rate when within 1% of it.
- Mic level: loudness on the digital scale where the loudest storable value is 0 dBFS. “Picks up sound” means the level passed −45 dBFS.
- Speaker tone: starts at one tenth of full scale and cannot go above half.
- Stick drift: average resting position. Under 5% centered, 5% to 15% slightly off, 15% or more drifting.
What it cannot tell you
A web page only sees what the browser passes on. Keys the system keeps for itself, a mouse’s true USB polling rate and the real sound in your room are outside its view. The tests say so where it matters.
Your sound and video
Mic audio, recordings, camera video and photos are processed in the tab and never uploaded. Details are in the privacy policy.
